佛光山慶祝開山五十週年，號召海內外、老中青佛光人齊聚，為佛光山「慶生」，高雄市長陳菊昨（十六）日前往禮佛祝賀（見圖），她肯定佛光山致力於文化教育、慈善弘法，也表示將盡力協助、輔導佛光山合法化，繼續發揚正面能量和慈悲善念。
一九六七年五月十六日，星雲大師在高雄大樹創建佛光山，至今已走過半世紀，值此屆滿五十年之際，寺方特地舉辦盛大的開山紀念活動，連續三天來自全球各地佛光人湧入慶祝，祈願國泰民安、社會祥和，信徒生活幸福安樂。
陳菊說，佛光山對於文化教育、慈善弘法著力很深，人間佛教影響甚大，信徒遍佈五大洲，感謝星雲大師和所有佛光人的付出貢獻。
